Leonardo, Cineca – More and more often, and never more than in this particular historical moment, we hear about Artificial Intelligence, whether on social media, on the news or in the workplace.
Most of the time, we tend to associate the phenomenon of AI with the popular ChatGPT, the American tool that we all know, created by OpenAI and capable of simulating interaction and dialogue with human beings.
But perhaps not everyone knows that, very soon, artificial intelligence will no longer be just an overseas prerogative…
In fact, it seems that a new AI is about to make its way into our country, an all-Italian artificial intelligence. This is Model Italy, created by the startup IGenius in collaboration with the Cineca consortium.
A large project still in the development phase, but which already has great objectives. In fact, if ChatGPT is mostly based on generic information coming from the Internet, Model Italia will connect to much more reliable sources of data and information, as they are carefully selected and come from universities and scientific communities.
A bot that will mainly speak Italian, but which wants to act as fair and impartial tool. The risk, in fact, is usually that of producing false information or cultural “prejudices” that a certain linguistic model inevitably brings with it, such as the English one on which most bots are based.
Leonardo, Cineca: the fourth most powerful supercomputer in the world
And who will have the task of “training” Model Italy? Leonardo will take care of this, the supercomputer created in Italy, managed by Cineca and based at the Tecnopolo in Bologna.
Leonardo, a name that brings us back to the multifaceted genius Leonardo da Vinci, is in fact a large and complex artificial “brain”, the second most powerful supercomputer in Europe and which occupies fourth place in the list of the Top500 most powerful supercomputers on the planet.
Inaugurated in 2022, in the presence of the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella, it is equipped with computing power that allows it to carry out 255 million billion operations per second. Thanks to its remarkable performance, it is available to Italian and European research institutes for the resolution of complex problems, to carry out simulations and in the context of studies concerning artificial intelligence, medicine and drug development, climate and related changes, weather forecasts and renewable energy sources. And again, it allows to manage the risks associated with extreme situations such as natural disasters or pandemics, to respond to emerging challenges and find innovative solutions.
Leonardo was built by the company Atos and presented by Cineca representing Italy. It is part of the EuroHPC initiative, a European joint venture for high performance computing, created to elevate and support the presence of the European Union in the field of research and progress.
Graziadio energy for Leonardo
Faced with such a large and important project, and above all at the service of science and research, we are immensely proud to have supplied our busbars for Leonardo’s energy supply. The busbars installed in the plant: GLS for lighting, GDA for energy distribution, K Series for transport and distribution.
Graziadio boasts long experience in the Data Center sector, both in Italy and abroad. The principles pursued by our company in this sector are mainly two: Simplicity and Modularity.
Simplicity because too much complexity, such as an excessive quantity of components, would increase the risk of critical issues arising. A minimally invasive system like ours reduces the risk of short circuit or overload, and increases the safety factor. Furthermore, the “Plug & Play” function for energy distribution falls within this principle, allowing the individual plug-in units to be easily inserted and moved along the ducting to the points where energy is needed.
Modularity to offer the possibility of adding or eliminating components as needed, as in the case of a system upgrade, without compromising the entire structure. Our busbars can be installed with a wide variety of boxes complete with switches, sockets and meters. This greater flexibility allows you to avoid permanent electrical wiring and also facilitates maintenance.
Furthermore, the thermal factor must not be neglected either, as a Data Center could be sensitive from this point of view. For this reason, a busway like our K Series line is optimal: it reduces temperature increases and its black painting allows better heat dissipation, optimizing the flow of current and avoiding energy dispersion.
To all this is added ease and speed during assembly.
